A Victorian Jaques patentee "In Status Quo" portable chess set, the folding mahogany board inset with rosewood and boxwood, stamped "Jaques Patentee London In Status Quo Chess Board" with patented looking system activated by two bone buttons to each half, the brass pegged turned bone pieces in stained red and natural bone. Board when open 9" 2/8 x 9" 2/8

The locking system works on both sides, all pieces lock in, some pieces are cracked and porous, the white pawns have one missing, which has been replaced with part of a red one, red ones are complete however, the case has surface scratches and nicks due to wear, the board inside has wear and surface scratches
