WW1 military interest: An early 20th century 9ct gold gents trench wristwatch, having a white enamel dial with luminous Arabic numerals, fitted to a later leather strap, the case back with presentation inscription 'Presented by the Inhabitants of Jersey to Staff Sergt. Summary of Thomas's Military Career
Enlistment & Early Service: Enlisted on 29th April 1899 at age 20. He rose through the ranks to Corporal and re-engaged with the Royal Army Medical Corps (R.A.M.C.) on 2nd January 1910.

World War I & Capture: Promoted to Serjeant on 10th August 1914 and deployed to France days later with the 1st Bn. Lincolnshire Regiment. He was captured by German forces and held as a prisoner of war in camps including Cassel, Ohrdruf, and Gottingen (starting late 1914).

Gallantry Award: Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his exceptional dedication and service while caring for prisoners during Cholera and Typhus outbreaks.

Later Service & Discharge: Repatriated in June 1915, later serving with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and holding various senior NCO ranks (including Acting Serjeant Major). He returned to the UK in January 1919 and was discharged on 28th April 1920 at an address in South Croydon, Surrey.
